Class Descriptions

EMT-Basic (EMT-B) Entry-level class for those seeking general knowledge or starting EMS careers. Topics: EMS systems, patient assessment, shock and fluid replacement, airway, pre-hospital world, pharmacology, infants and children. Hours: 140, classroom and clinical.
First Responder (FR) Great class for firefighters and law enforcement officials, includes CPR training. Topics: EMS operations, patient assessment, airway control, medical legal issues, cardiac emergencies, muscle and bone injuries. Hours: 40, classroom and practical.
AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Useful to all critical-care practitioners, teaches AHA emergency cardiac treatment priorities. Topics: Review of algorithms, pharmacology, airway adjuncts and cardiac arrest situations and case-by-case review of ACLS scenarios. Hours: Two days.
AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Emergency management of critically ill neonates, infants and children. Topics: Systematic review of assessment principles, skills and treatment priorities. Hours: Two days.
EMT-Basic Refresher: Must produce a current AHA CPR card. Hours: 3 classroom; 17 practical skills and scenarios.
EMT-Intermediate Refresher: Topics: Patient assessment, shock & fluid replacement, trauma, airway, EMS systems, review basic skills. Hours: 12.
First Responder Refresher First responders must complete this refresher or EMT-Basic Refresher by Dec. 31 of recertification year. Hours: 12.
