Osteoporosis is a bone disease, often known as "the silent thief" because it robs individuals of their bone strength without
causing symptoms. Most people don't know they have osteoporosis until a bone break occurs. Signs of advanced osteoporosis include a broken bone, typically at the hip, spine, wrist or ankle.
Spine fractures cause back pain or tiredness, loss of more than one inch of height, a stooped rounded-shoulder appearance
or hump forming in the upper back. Sometimes, you can have a vertebral (spine) fracture without even knowing it. There are potentially modifiable risk factors for developing osteoporosis. Identifying your risk factors
can help you and your medical provider determine your risk for developing osteoporosis and implementing the appropriate
management. Bone Basics ProgramFortunately, there are steps you can take to prevent and manage osteoporosis. The Johnson Clinic and the
Heart of America Medical Center have designed a program called BONE BASICS FOR ALL AGES.
