BABY SITTER CLINIC
This is two day (6 hours each day) baby sitter clinic held on-site by our Golden Heart Paramedic Instructor.  Participants must be at least 12 years of age or older.  

The first day consists of how to care for infants, toddlers and children.  Safety courses include first aide, how to avoid choking or how to handle the situation.  Daily cares will be covered along with giving ideas for age appropriate games for children.  Diapering, bath time, bed time tips and story time ideas will also be shared.  The second day will include a CPR certification course.  All participants receive a completion card at the end of the course.

There is a minimal fee for the course as many of the items have been donated through the Heart of America Auxiliary.  Pre-registration is required prior to the course by calling 776-5261 #2147 or email direct by clicking here ghmedicangel@hamc.com

NURSING PROGRAM
Heart of America Medical Center offers a 1 year Practical Nursing Program in conjunction with Minot State University-Bottineau and the Dakota Nursing Program.

Practical Nurses see to the basic care of patients, taking vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration, monitoring patients, and making sure they are comfortable.

In doctor's offices and clinics, they also may make appointments, keep records, and perform other clerical duties.

Graduates of this program could receive jobs at:

  •   Long term care facilities 

  •  Acute care facilities 

  •  Home health or public health 

  •  Clinics  

  • Camps 

  •  Indian Health Services 

  •  Military settings 

  •  Veteran's Administration

The MSU-Bottineau PN, Dakota Nursing Program is an 11-month educational opportunity that results in a certificate in Practical Nursing. Graduates are then eligible to apply for the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (LPN).

Prerequisites 

  1.  High School Diploma or GED Certificate 
  2. Current CNA Certification in North Dakota 
  3. Current CPR Certification for Health Care Providers 
  4. ENGL 110 Composition I 
  5. CHEM 115 Introduction to Chemistry Lecture/Lab 
  6. Algebra Course (ASC 092, MATH 102, or MATH 103) completed within 5 years of application, or ACT math score of 16 or higher, or COMPASS math score of 25-26 or higher in the algebra domain, or ASSET intermediate algebra test score of 33 or higher. 
  7. ACT composite score of 19, or COMPASS/ASSET test score equivalent to ACT composite requirement (writing score and reading score of 75 each or higher), or completion of 12 credits of nursing program coursework (including program prerequisites) with GPA or 2.5 or higher. 
  8. Admission to MSU-Bottineau. Admission to the college does not guarantee admission to the Practical Nursing Program.

CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT
Free Nurse Aide training is available on-site - upon hire as an Assistant at Heart of America Medical Center - Nursing Facility or Harold S. Haaland Home. We will schedule the testing to provide appropriate certification to put your education to work at our healthcare facility. Details for the FREE nurse aide training are accessible by contacting Denise Christianson, RN, Instructor


We also offer several classes through the Paramedics such as EMT classes, First Aide Safety, etc.
