GOLDEN HEART PARAMEDICS /EMS OUR STORY Golden HEART paramedics/EMS was established by the Heart of America Medical Center (a non-profit organization) in December of 1996. One of the program goals was to offer administrative support to the local volunteer ambulances that utilized our hospital. A major concern among the services was reimbursement and ambulance transports. Our program addresses these concerns by offering contractual billing services for their ambulance transportation charges. Under our program, our customers have seen a substantial increase in cash flow and revenues. These badly needed funds have allowed the ambulance services to obtain new ambulances and equipment. This program has progressed into a state-wide program serving over 48 ambulance services. We currently serve both small (15 calls a year) and large (1000 calls a year) services. 2001 The Minot Air Force Base decided they needed some staffing assistance with their ambulance service. Who did they turn to for help? They turned to Golden Heart Paramedics. Since 2001, Golden Heart Paramedics have staffed a paramedic, 24 hours a day, at the Minot Air Force Base to work along side the Military Medics. The base currently staffs the dispatch center and provides an ambulance driver for the ambulance service there. Our paramedics also provide assistance in the base's after hours walk in clinic. Along with providing staffing assistance, Golden Heart Paramedics provide educational services as well. This comes in the form of CPR, ACLS, Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVOC), and more. 2002 When the New Town Ambulance was no longer able to staff their ambulance service they turned to Golden Heart Paramedics for answers. Their service was on the verge of loosing all of its members to "burn-out". So in 2002, Golden Heart Paramedics started to provide a paramedic to staff the New Town ambulance 24-hours a day. With this contract, we brought Advanced Life Support Services to an area which did not have ALS service before. Keeping the patients best interests and needs first is our goal with Golden Heart, and by providing ALS services to rural North Dakota we are better serving our patients. With the contracted ALS services provided to New Town Ambulance they also receive educational services and ambulance administration assistance. New Town Ambulance currently provides EMT-Basics who assist our paramedics and CPR certified drivers for the ambulance. As of December, 2004 the New Town Ambulance is once again self-sustaining. This is due, in part, to the assistance provided by the Golden Heart Paramedics over the past few years.
