Radiology

Radiology would like to express their concern
about early detection of breast cancer....

The Best Protection is Early Detection:

Participant in Women's Way Program

As a woman, you face special concerns that call for heightened awareness about your health. This is especially true for breast care. Breast cancer is today’s second leading cause of cancer death in American women. While research continues to seek ways to prevent, detect, and treat this disease, it is essential for you to stay informed.

A life-long care program involves a 3-step approach:

1) Monthly Self-Examination - Self-examinations are easy to do, only take a few moments and best of all cost nothing. From age 20 and on self-examination is recommended 7-10 days after your menstrual cycle begins. After menopause self-examination is recommended once a month on a day that’s easy to remember, like the first of the month.

2) Regular Physician Examination - Clinical exams by your healthcare professional will often use the same finger-touch technique you use for your monthly self-exam. A physical exam by a healthcare professional provides you with a second opinion about your breast condition. If you need advice about how to do your self-exam, this is a time to ask. From age 20-39 every 3 years From age 40 and over annually done close to the time of your mammogram.

3) Regularly Scheduled Mammograms - A mammogram is a low-dose x-ray of your breasts. It can detect many changes that are too small or too deep to feel during self-examination. The risk associated with not having a mammogram is greater than the radiation risk. From age 40 and over mammograms should be scheduled annually Mammograms are available locally through the Heart of America Medical Center every Tuesday, and scheduled through your healthcare provider at the Johnson Clinic 701 776-5235.
