Surgical Service

The Heart of America Medical Center is a twenty-bed acute care facility, including two ICU beds located in Rugby, ND in the heart of America. At the Heart of America Medical Center, general surgery procedures are performed daily.  The operating suite features one main operating room and one procedure room for minor outpatient surgeries and colonoscopies.  State of the art colonoscopes are used for the scopes.

Dr. Susanne Levene is a Board Certified General Surgeon who performs a wide range of surgical procedures.  She performs surgeries involving the gastro-intestinal tract, appendix, gallbladder, breast,  thyroid, salivary glands as well as porta-cath placements to name a few.  She also manages trauma and other surgical emergencies. Dr. Levene has been trained in mammographic needle localizations as well as minor urologic procedures such as vasectomies and hydrocelectomies.  She received her medical degree from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, CO and finished her surgical residency training in Stockton, CA.  She has been practicing at the Heart of America Medical Center since June 2006.  She is always happy to see new patients.   Should you have questions regarding our available services please e-mail us: Heart of America Medical Center
