The Good Samaritan Hospital Association thrives on their continued support from the Heart of America Medical Center Auxiliary. The Auxiliary was established in 1961. The Volunteer Department and Auxiliary was reorganized and combined in the early 80's to more effectively meet and serve the needs of the patients and residents of the Heart of America Medical Center AND Harold S. Haaland Home. Now under one entity the Auxiliary/Volunteer Department is known as Heart of America Medical Center Auxiliary. A Board comprised of eleven active volunteers, guiding their peers who give of their hours unselfishly, supports the Auxiliary.
The responsibility of the Auxiliary entails all fund raising projects including an Annual Bazaar (creating and selling of crafts), Tree of Giving, the Gift Shop, Salad Luncheon to name only a few. Items purchased with these funds these past years are new Lifelines, Long Term Care charts, privacy curtains, hair dryers and shampoo chair, housekeeping equipment, new furniture throughout the facility, decorative needs, resident museum pass, and many more miscellaneous items.
Volunteers of the Auxiliary also provide hands-on service to the residents and patients of the Heart of America Medical Center and Harold S. Haaland Home with their time and talents. You will find these special people greeting visitors, assisting with daily LTC activities, providing hair care, delivering newspapers, reading and writing with residents, plant and flower care, transporting and assisting with church services, just to name a few areas of volunteerism.
The uniform of the Volunteer has become a symbol of cheerfulness, friendliness and helpfulness. We are proud and especially thankful to have them as a part of our health care team.
