Last evening, February 18, 2019, the Governing Board of Heart of America Medical Center made the decision to change the legal designation of the HAMC Emergency Medical Services from an Advanced Life Support (ALS) service to a Basic Life Support (BLS) service. This decision is based solely on providing greater flexibility in the manner in which people requiring transport to other medical facilities are handled. It is the stated policy of the Board that we will maintain our paramedic-based service for 911 responses. In addition, the Board made it clear that our paramedics also serve, and will continue to serve, in support of our neighboring ambulance services.
