Basic Care

What Is Basic Care?

The Basic Care Assistance Program (BCAP) is a state-funded program that helps seniors who need services in a basic care facility pay for their care. The amount of assistance one receives varies based on their income. The program pays the facility directly to cover the recipient’s health and medical costs. (From AssistedLiving.org)

At Haaland Estates, Basic Care is a level of care designed to be between assisted living and a nursing home, and provides 24-hour, personalized care which is designed to encourage the highest levels of independence for people who can't remain in their own homes because of physical or cognitive needs.

Haaland Estates Basic Care is licensed for 49 residents and staffed 24/7 located less than four blocks from the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, North Dakota. We have residents from all over the region including Devils Lake, Minot, Bismarck, Grand Forks, and all points in between.

For many basic care residents, Haaland Estates is home. For others, it is a caring place to recuperate from a short-term illness or injury.

Is Basic Care Right for Me?

Haaland Estates is licensed as a basic care facility. We use the following criteria to determine if basic care is right for you.

Walking
: You must be able to walk independently for at least 300 feet and exit the building on your own. Walkers and canes are acceptable. If you use a wheelchair, you must be able to walk at least 25 feet, transfer in and out of your wheelchair on your own, and wheel yourself.

Thinking
: You need to be able to relate well to fellow residents and staff. Being forgetful is OK, as long as you can manage the activities of daily living.

Self-Care
: You need to be able to take care of basic personal hygiene and eat without assistance. We can help with things like getting in and out of the tub, putting on TED support hose, and occasional reminders to dress appropriately.

Doctor's orders
: To be admitted to Haaland Estates Basic Care, you will need to have a physical exam and provide written orders from your doctor.
