Heart of America Medical Center is a critical access hospital with three rural health clinics (Rugby, Dunseith, and Maddock), a basic care facility and an Assisted Living center serving the community of Rugby, ND and the surrounding area. The Rugby-area endowment funds were created to support the future of local health care, each with a unique purpose dedicated to the betterment of our community.  These funds are professionally managed by INSPIRITUS Community Health Foundation, ensuring long-term stewardship and impact.

Tuchscherer Rugby-Area Health Endowment

Provides $3,000 in Support to 2026 Healthcare Education Recipients

Heart of America Medical Center recently celebrated four 2026 scholarship recipients at the Tuchscherer Recognition Luncheon September 1, 2026. Through the Tuchscherer Endowment, $3,000 was distributed among this year’s recipients to support their education.


Jim and Gerd Tuchscherer, founders of the Tuchscherer Endowment, also surprised the recipients with an additional $10,000 gift, providing each scholarship recipient with an additional $2,500 toward their education.


HAMC is grateful to Jim and Gerd Tuchscherer for their continued generosity and commitment to supporting the education and future of our healthcare team. Congratulations to all of the 2026 scholarship recipients!


Jim and Gerd Tuchscherer established this endowment to support healthcare education in the Rugby area, and the community is encouraged to help continue its growth. Your generosity can help provide ongoing opportunities for local healthcare professionals to pursue education, advance their skills, and strengthen the future of healthcare in our community.

The North Dakota Tax Credit for Charitable Giving law makes it possible for individuals, businesses and financial institutions to make gifts to qualified nonprofit organizations, for qualified endowments and receive generous tax credits. This law provides for a 40% ND tax credit on qualified charitable contributions of $5,000 or more.

The mission of INSPIRITUS Community Health Foundation is to promote healthy and sustainable communities by providing financial gifts, strengthening collaborative relationships and supporting local initiatives that impact the mental, physical and spiritual well-being of residents. GSHS is grateful to be partnered up with INSPIRITUS to handle the Rugby Area Health Endowment.
