Blue Ocean Robotics UVD Robot

Meet Sunny, our UVD (Ultraviolet Disinfection) Robot from Blue Ocean Robotics.

Why did we get Sunny? We were able to get Sunny through money awarded for a grant, to protect the health and safety of our patients and staff.

UVD Robots emit Ultraviolet (UV) light to disinfect areas of a room, including walls, floors, ceilings, and indoor surfaces. UVD Robots use Ultraviolet C (UV-C) light, which has been associated with germicidal disinfection efficacy rates of 99.99%.

Patients at HAMC deserve the best quality service we can give, and Blue Ocean Robotics helps us provide that by giving us the best opportunity to provide a clean and germ-free emergency treatment room and surgical center.

Statements from Erik Christenson and Chelsey Wyatt

“There were a lot of unknowns, and so that definitely added to the stress level,” said Christenson of the pandemic, “it involved things that just seemed contrary to the culture we had established as healthcare workers.” "“Infection prevention, infection control, is always something that we’re mindful of..., as was making sure that you were doing proper cleaning, in all areas of the health system.” "If you’re dealing with high-risk patients with respiratory infections, you could use a UV light in the room..., in-between, to really help disinfect and assist in that process.”  - Erik Christenson, C.E.O., Heart of America Medical Center

Knowing that we’re providing the highest level of disinfection, and that we’re doing everything we can to avoid a postoperative infection,” said Wyatt, “that’s just that one more level of safety that we're now able to offer our patients. - Chelsey Wyatt, APRN, CRNA, Heart of America Medical Center
