Care Center Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between long term and basic care?
A:
Residents of basic care facilities like the Haaland Estates Basic Care, can live fairly independently and manage their activities of daily living with limited assistance, while interacting appropriately with other residents. Skilled care facilities, like Heart of America Care Center, are licensed to provide people with such assistance.

Q: How do I know if skilled nursing care is right for me or my loved one?
A:
We are ready and willing to help families decide what kind of living situation will best meet your needs or those of your loved one. Please feel free to contact us with your questions.

Q: What if my care needs change?
A:
Your plan of care will be reviewed at a quarterly care conference. You and/or your family are invited to attend care conferences every six months, or more often if your needs change significantly. Additional care conferences may be scheduled at any time by contacting Heart of America Social Services.

Q: Can I keep my same doctor?
A: Yes. You may continue being seen by your Heart of America Johnson Clinic healthcare provider. If you are new to Rugby, we will help you choose a local provider.

Q: Do I give up my rights when I enter Heart of America Care Center?
A: Residents' rights remain intact and are guaranteed by state and federal law. Detailed information can be found in the Guide to Long Term Residents' Rights published by the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program.
