Pain Management

Heart of America Medical Center offers pain management consultations. In these appointments, an individualized plan is designed for each patient. Through various modalities, including physical therapy, chiropractic care, massage therapy, nutrition counseling, fluoroscopic guided injections, and trigger point injections, we can treat a multitude of back, muscle, and joint-related conditions.

For patients suffering from headaches, we offer sphenopalatine ganglion blocks (SPG blocks) which is a nerve block procedure to stop pain transmission to the nerve. Occipital nerve blocks are another successful option. Injections of steroids into regions of the greater occipital nerve are used to treat chronic headaches.

Our goal for every patient is to optimize their pain management, their functionality, and improve their overall quality of life.

Before and After Surgery

Before Surgery

At the time your surgery is scheduled, your surgeon or a member of the surgery clinic staff will give you preoperative instructions.

The day before your procedure, a surgical nurse will call to:

  • Tell you what to expect
  • Answer questions
  • Give you your check-in time and estimated time of discharge

It is very important to tell the staff exactly what medications you are taking at home. Some medications need to be stopped before the surgery and others need to be continued. Please remember to bring all your medications with you when you come to the hospital for surgery, or you can make a list of them by using This Downloadable Form.

Questions are always welcome. During regular office hours, please call and ask to speak with our operating room director, Chelsey Wyatt, at (701) 776-5455 ext. 2329, or our surgery clinic assistant at (701) 776-7000. After normal business hours, please call (701) 776-5261 and ask to have a surgery nurse paged.

After Surgery

Most procedures are performed on an outpatient basis, which means you will return home the same day of your surgery. When you are discharged you will be given a post-surgery instruction sheet outlining what you should and should not do when you get home.

If you have any post-surgery concerns or questions, please call (701) 776-5261 and ask to have a surgery nurse paged.
