Support the construction of a new EMS garage at Heart of America Medical Center — a critical step in saving lives across rural North Dakota.
Help us build a new, life-saving EMS garage at Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby — the home base for ambulance crews supporting dozens of rural North Dakota communities.
While towns like Rolette, Maddock, Leeds, and Towner have local ambulance services, many rely on our team for advanced care, intercepts, and hospital transfers. In other areas, Rugby EMS is the only response available. From farmsteads to highways, we respond 24/7 — but our outdated garage is holding us back.
Currently, only two ambulance bays are climate controlled. A third ambulance and our Quick Response Unit must be parked outside, exposed to the elements year-round. This reduces equipment readiness, increases wear and tear, and delays response when minutes can mean the difference between life and death.
We’re raising funds to build a modern EMS garage on the hospital campus. This facility will protect vehicles, speed up response times, and support the dedicated teams who serve our region. It’s not just for Rugby — it’s for every rural resident who may one day need emergency care.
You don’t have to live here to make a difference here. Please support Mission-Lifeline and help us build a faster, stronger EMS response for rural North Dakota.

While Heart of America Medical Center has served the Rugby region since 1905, its EMS division has grown into a vital resource for rural emergency response throughout north-central North Dakota.
Based in Rugby, HAMC’s hospital-based ambulance service provides Advanced Life Support (ALS) care, 911 emergency response, and interfacility transfers across a five-county region. In many emergencies, our paramedics provide intercepts—meeting ambulances from towns like Maddock, Leeds, Rolette, and Towner en route to deliver a higher level of care before the patient even reaches the hospital.
In 2009, HAMC’s EMS leadership launched Golden Heart Services, a statewide initiative to support rural EMS operations with billing and administrative help. What started as a pilot program assisting 12 local agencies has expanded to support more than 60 EMS services across North Dakota.
To address challenges unique to rural areas, our team also developed a volunteer quick responder network—trained community members who can begin life-saving care in the critical first minutes before an ambulance arrives.
Today, HAMC EMS stands at the center of a connected, innovative network of rural responders, driven by one mission: deliver life-saving care where it’s needed most, as fast as possible.
